Authenticity—a word we often use but rarely truly understand. It is a quality of sincerity, a state of remaining true to oneself by acting in accordance with personal beliefs, values, and principles. Authenticity resonates in our personal relationships, how we present ourselves to others, in our behavior, and in our creativity. But how can we be sure that we are truly authentic?
In my view, authenticity is revealed through inspiration. When we feel inspired, we embody authenticity. A life led by inspiration allows us to stay true to ourselves, while a life led by duties can lead us astray, serving something or someone else instead of our true desires.
Let us ask ourselves: How often do I feel inspired? And how can I distinguish true inspiration from mere motivation? Motivation drives our behavior, while inspiration represents deep emotional and intellectual stimulation that fuels our creativity, passion, and sense of purpose. While motivation is often short-lived and dependent on external factors, inspiration has a lasting impact and becomes a guiding force in our lives. The carrot or the stick may motivate, but inspiration drives us with a desire to do what is right. Inspiration acts as an inexhaustible source of energy and a driving force. It invigorates our being and enhances our energy, never reaching a peak.
When driven solely by motivation, it is like fuel in an engine that depletes over time and requires a break. It is good to be motivated, but it is even better to be inspired. Inspiration inevitably acts as the driving force behind motivation, but motivation alone is never strong enough to elevate us to the level of inspiration.
The most valuable source of inspiration lies within ourselves. By accepting all aspects of our being and living in harmony with our wholeness, we unlock our authenticity and pave our own path. We no longer depend on external sources for inspiration because we discover that we are the creators of our own lives, not just passive observers. This realization brings freedom, allowing us to believe in the infinite possibilities that lie ahead. Suddenly, "I have to" transforms into "I want to."
But why do many still choose the path of duty and motivation instead of embracing inspiration? Some might say, "A man has to eat." Many believe that motivation or duty is necessary for a decent life, while inspiration remains a beautiful but impractical idea. Moreover, distinguishing between motivation and inspiration, especially in terms of feelings, can be challenging. Are we truly motivated or genuinely inspired? Do we only believe in our authenticity, or do we authentically believe? Reaching this level of awareness triggers a wondrous exploration of emotions and bodily sensations, revealing our true nature and unveiling our authentic path. Emotions, often neglected and normalized, manifest as characteristic sets of sensations. To embark on the path of true authenticity, we must first become aware of these sensations and then learn how to distinguish them.
For example, consider the following scenario: "I have to cook lunch for my children. I have to take them to school. I have to get up early and go to work. I have to catch the train at 5:00 AM." Now, change the perspective to: "I want to take my children to school. I want to get up at 5:00 AM." Do you notice the contrasting bodily sensations when we feel compelled versus when we truly want to act? Can we distinguish and articulate these sensations?
We usually remain at the cognitive level of words. Even our stories revolve around duties instead of inspiration. That is precisely why you are here—to change the narrative, discover your authentic desires, and eliminate unnecessary obligations. As you change the narrative and align with your bodily sensations, you begin to reconnect with your untamed, authentic self—the parts of you that were suppressed to fit into societal molds. We often buried parts of ourselves in search of rewards because we sought to fit in. Does this sound familiar? Think about whether it was truly worth it.
